St. Johns Church Mural Project:
Peace Be Still
by Sonia Jones
The inspiration behind the mural
I'm proud to have been a part of the St. John's Church mural project, where art and activism intersected in a powerful way. Against the backdrop of significant events, including former President Trump's controversial photo with an upside-down Bible, the church became a symbol of the need for peace and unity. Local artists were enlisted to create murals on the church’s boarded facade and in a display of creativity, unity, and collaboration, all the murals were brought to life on the spot in just one day.
My mural, "Peace Be Still," was a call to action for peace inspired by biblical wisdom. Choosing a young male as its focal point, I aimed to empower youth. I want to show them that they, too, hold power and can make a difference.
