Community, Art & Finances
I had the great opportunity to be commissioned by TD Bank to create a mural for their new branch location in Anacostia in SE DC.
The design concept captures a blend of themes. It displays the area's vintage and historic architecture, paying homage to the area's historic significance. There are subtle nods to key protests that have shaped its identity. Vivid and abstract splashes of color celebrate the vibrancy of black-owned businesses, which form the economic backbone of the neighborhood. The design also honors Native American heritage by integrating elements inspired by the area's original communities and showcases the richness of the Anacostia River wildlife. Additionally, it aims to showcase Black love and spirituality through church spires and water offerings.
